Maths & Science at SJSP
Maths
We wish for all children to succeed in maths regardless of their starting points. We aim to equip our pupils with the knowledge and skills needed to be confident and successful learners.
We follow a Maths Mastery curriculum that allows our pupils to understand their learning to sufficient depth so that they can apply their maths learning to solve new and unfamiliar contexts.
We teach our Maths Mastery curriculum from Reception to Year 6. It is a carefully sequenced programme that builds on and consolidates key mathematical skills. We focus on conceptual understanding, language and communication and mathematical thinking in all year groups.
Science
At St Jude and St Paul’s, we are passionate about inspiring our students to be inquisitive and curious about the world around them. We follow the Science Mastery curriculum, which is fully aligned to the National Curriculum. It is a knowledge-rich, coherent curriculum that has been strategically sequenced to build pupils’ knowledge, embed opportunities to work scientifically, and nurture positive attitudes towards Science.
The Science Mastery curriculum aims to enable pupils to recognise the connectedness of Science and how each new topic connects to everyday life and familiar contexts. Each unit provides a strong foundation of scientific knowledge and skills that can empower and equip pupils to participate, challenge and reshape the world around them.
